Albany Biblical Counseling History
Albany Biblical Counseling was founded in the spring of 2007 as a ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church. Since then hundreds of lives have been changed through learning how to grow in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord.” The focus for counseling is taken from 2 Corinthians 5:9 which says, “I make it my aim whether present or absent from this body to be well pleasing to GOD.”
Our desire is to point people to the saving grace of Jesus Christ. The overall goal is to teach and disciple clients to be biblical in their response to life expectations and relationship issues. Homework is given to help move individuals towards healing and accountability.
From the counseling center’s inception, clients have booked over 100 appointments each month. Those who come for counseling include couples, singles, teenagers and grade school children. There are approximately 35 churches represented by those clients, as well as people coming from as far away as Cordele, Tifton, Valdosta, Bainbridge, Atlanta, and Augusta. There have been several individuals who experienced life changing decisions for Christ.
As of January 2020, there are eight certified biblical counselors (Association of Certified Biblical Counselors) working out of the center and more in training. There are 4 other counselors that network with Albany Biblical Counseling from surrounding communities. Additional staffing will allow for the increasing number of clients and provide more opportunities for individuals to change and to impact our community spiritually.
I urge you to pray for this ministry. Pray that the Lord will continue to guide its leaders and give them the focus they need to take this ministry beyond the walls of the church.
